Problems tend to arise when "short tripping" a diesel with a DPF because cold starts tend to be richer in fuel and therefore produce more soot, so the process of burning the soot (regen) happens more often, filling the filter with ash quicker. More soot = more regen cycles = more ash.
Answered by Honest John. On longer runs it will actively regenerate every 250 miles or so and will be pre-programmed to do so. The instructions are to promote passive regeneration to burn off the soot from cold starts. "High revs" enough to passively regenerate the DPF are 2500 - 3000rpm for a few minutes steady speed running. A scrap diesel catalytic converter is worth as low as $18 and as much as $625. However, the worth of the converter depends on the vehicle’s make and model. While some diesel engine cat converters may fall within this price range, others may be slightly more. Whatever the case may be, an old converter still has some economic value.
A blocked DPF can cause severe damage to your engine. This is because your engine is having to work a lot harder to vent the exhaust fumes that your blocked DPF is failing to. This can lead to weakened acceleration, increased fuel consumption, and the risk of leaks. DPF cleaning can improve your car’s performance, by taking this pressure off
O.P. Hi. We’ve had issues with our 2012 Subaru Outback and it’s dpf. Intake and turbo pipe have both been replaced. The light is regularly coming on and causing us many trips to the mechanic. Dpf has been cleaned and oil has been changed when required as determined by service schedule or when the fault code appears.
Every diesel car owner should be aware of DPF issues that may occur, especially on used vehicles with decent milages. It’s fact that quality of new car parts is getting lower and DPF cloggs are not so rare story today. How to Avoid DPF Problems Add more fuel Go for an extended drive.
October 2, 2020. Mercedes-Benz USA and its parent automaker, Daimler AG, will pay more than $2 billion to settle allegations of emissions cheating on diesel-powered vehicles, including sedans
Best option with DPF is to ring a main dealer, speak to parts department, quote chassis number and ask if vehicle has DPF fitted. 2008 Jaguar 2.7 TDV6s have DPF and maybe 2007, RRS went EURO4 on 07MY so could have fitted DPF then, often easiest way is to look for DPF pressure sensor in engine bay that looks like this.

Kia Ceed 1.6 CRDi engines are rumoured to not have DPF’s fitted as they meet Euro V emissions standards without one. Toyota – Pre 2006 Toyota’s do not have DPF’s. All T180, SR180 and 2.2 Auto transmissions will have a DPF, however the standard 2.2 Diesel manuals did not get a DPF fitted until around 2010.

OK so all diesel engined cars with a DPF need to regenerate the filter, they do so by over-fuelling which raises the exhaust gas temperature and burning off the particulates. Well and good. In 2010, Saab introduced a replacement for the 25 year old 9-5, the new model is known as a NG 9-5.
Not many drivers know what a Diesel Particulate filter (DPF) is – until it costs them serious money. And replacing one can cost £1000 or more. Green Flag attends a lot of cars that have broken down with DPF problems and they are caused by one primary factor: the DPF is clogged with soot because the driver has ignored the warning lamp.

Basically, there are three solutions available to fix Toyota Hilux DPF issues. I will go through each one; Option 1: Regeneration – This is probably the cheapest solution. A mechanic with an advanced diagnostic tool can put the vehicle into a regeneration mode for the car to clear soot by itself. The problem with this solution is that it can

The engine is nice and quite on tick over but the burning oil is a slight mystery. I have had no dpf problems because the car does motorway miles but I do have to keep topping it up every week. I change the oil every 10,000 and in that time I could go through 2 maybe even 3 litres topping up before the next Change.

Almost all diesels have DPF by now. Vectras from late 2004 with the 1.9 CDTI engine didn't have a DPF on manual hatchbacks initially, and were still somehow Euro IV compliant. As PU says, some VAG PD don't have DPF either. The latest diesel Fiestas do not have DMF and neither do most of the gasoline Fords.
