Some only gut out the DPF and leave the catalytic convertor alone. The catalytic convertor part is made of metal honeycomb and is not ceramic like the DPF. You can remove the exhaust from the back of the DPF and again, with the engine and DPF cold, insert a snake camera through the exhaust into the DPF and have a look around.
Now if there isn’t a failure after the DPF has been removed, damaged, or tampered with, then there’s something wrong with either the test equipment, or the level of particulate density considered as acceptable by the authorities responsible for the MOT Test – which in the UK is the Government, who still follow the EU Directive on emission
Manual cleaning involves physically removing the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) from your vehicle and following a step-by-step process to clean it. Begin by removing the filter from your car and testing it for any issues. Then, use compressed air to blow out the accumulated soot and ash particles from the filter.
It will have had a DPF. Look on www.realoem.com - put the last 7 digits of your VIN into the box at the top of the page and it'll bring up your exact car. Look on the engine diagram and you'll see
No problem. Here's the the general OM642 parts, the DPF delete is under mercedes. I'm assuming the same DPF was used on the ML and the E series. OM642 Engine Parts | CB Engineering. Here's the tune I went with as I had problems with people confirming if their tune would work with US spec models.
According to the folks at Calibrated Power, “If you take a late-model Cummins that has been deleted and tuned and pit it against a non-deleted and tuned Cummins, the numbers are extremely similar. Many people believe that the exhaust flow restriction caused by the DPF filter is robbing them of power. Removing the DPF will normally cause the engine management light to turn on, unless the car's ECU has been reprogrammed to ignore the DPF sensor. So if would need the DPF refitted as well as the ECU changes undone to be back to normal. All your base are belong to us. motorguy Posts: 22,406 Forumite. Originally Posted by Todd Wenke. Here's a shot of the parts that came off the car. You can see the DPF filter, EGR filter, and primary and secondary cat with exhaust flapper. Behind that you can see the passenger side drive axle. The DPF unit alone is a lot heavier than it looks. I'd estimate it to weigh at least 45, maybe 50 pounds.
I looked closely at the debris. The NOX has a straight through path. The DPF has square tubes, 50% open on the inlet side and 50% open on the exhaust side. The gases must enter the square tubes on the inlet side and then move transversely through a porous substrate to get in to the tube that is open on the exhaust side.
Interfering with a DEF system can get you in trouble with the law, but that’s not the only danger. It will also nullify the manufacturer’s warranty on the equipment. When equipment with tampered DEF arrives at a dealership as a trade-in, it must be returned to its original DEF settings before it can be resold. That’s $5,000 to $7,000

So in short it has to be one or the other, all stock or deleted with tuner. It is true you don't need the tuner plugged in at all times just needs the program.

There are 3 ways to fix a blocked DPF: the home remedy of a regeneration drive, but if the blockage is too significant, it will be too late for this to work. A DPF cleaning service. Which involves removing the DPF, flushing, and cleaning the internals with chemicals. Replace the DPF.

3. Deleting the DPF does not get you better fuel economy. The myth that deletes garner better fuel economy is slowly fading. Now a days, there are tons of guys out there that have been running emissions equipped tuning for years. Essently, there is actual real-world data to back it up.
